We’re waking up to rain and thunderstorms today that are expected to last through the day, according to the National Weather Service. At least we have some pretty spectacular weather to look forward to for Memorial Day weekend, which is expected to be sunny and warm.
Here’s some more local news to help you start the day:
- Years of work to calm local traffic are starting to pay off for the Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership, which reported on the New York City Department of Transportation’s plans to improve pedestrian safety and calm traffic on Park Avenue between Navy Street and Flushing Avenue. The plan, unveiled at Community Board 2′s Transportation and Public Safety Committee this week, was accepted unanimously by the committee and is expected to be implemented by this fall.
- We saw a rendering of the five-story Clinton Hill building at 588 Myrtle Avenue in this Brownstoner post. The structure is currently a steel skeleton, but the drawings posted on a fence outside the construction site show a geometric stone, glass and metal facade that will be a unique addition to the nabe. What do you think about the development, locals?
- Those of you who might have enjoyed taking your kids to the outdoor space at Hot Bird in Clinton Hill might feel rebuffed after the bar has banned children, the New York Post reported. The spot enacted the rule because too many parents were showing up with small children. One parent was asked to leave multiple times during a visit this week, the paper reported, to the ebullience of pub patrons “trying to drink and hook up.”
