Memorial Day weekend may have started out with rain and thunderstorms, but the sun brought locals out to the park on Sunday and Monday. If you happened to be taking pictures while you were out, remember to share them on The Nabe’s Flickr group.
The weekend’s warm temperatures continue today, with a high of 86 degrees, but there’s a chance of thunderstorms and showers after 5 p.m., according to the National Weather Service, so be sure to take an umbrella for your evening commute.
Here’s some local news to start your week:
- Police are investigating a teenage “fight club” on Hanson Place and South Elliott Place near the Atlantic Center Mall, where kids meet up for daytime fist fights, reported DNAInfo. Teens organize the fights on social media, according to the Captain Peter Fiorillo of the 88th Precinct. Someone also fired a gun during a fight on April 18, though no one was hurt. Police could not say how many fights have taken place, though one local said she has seen at least 30 teenagers fighting.
- The Fort Greene Park Greenmarket may be moving closer to the public housing complexes north of the park, reported NY1. Community Board 2′s Transportation Committee voted last week to expand the farmer’s market, and the full board will vote on the measure on June 11.
- Fort Greene and Clinton Hill were featured in an article about bike commuting and real estate prices in The New York Times. Locals said they switched to riding to work after moving to apartments further away from train stations. Half of the city’s bike commuters live in Brooklyn, according to the most recent American Community Survey. Do you ride a bike to work, locals?
