Good morning, Fort Greene and Clinton Hill.
A rainy Tuesday has left us expecting more sun today, but temperatures should only make it into the high 40s by the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. It might be 20 degrees cooler than we started the week, but we’re sure many of you will still be out enjoying the day. Don’t forget to take a photo while you’re out and share it in The Nabe’s Flickr group.
Here’s more news to start your morning:
- Congratulations are in order for St. Joseph’s College senior Joe Mendez, who won the Association of Division III Independents Male Student-Athlete of the Month award for his MVP-worthy athletic performance this March. Mendez, who joined the school’s 100-run club this week, had a batting average of .469 and team-high 23 RBI, leading the Brooklyn Bears to an 8-2 record in March.
- Earlier this week we reminded you about the reopening of the Clinton Hill Library. Brownstoner was there on opening day to show us the improvements, including new heating and cooling systems, furniture, lighting and more. What do you think about the changes to our branch of the Brooklyn Public Library, locals?
- The Fort Greene Tennis Ladder, run by the Fort Greene Tennis Association in Fort Greene Park, is back for another season and open for registration. Two ladders will be run between May 19 and Sept 21 – an “A” ladder for more experienced players and “B” ladder for players who play for recreational fun. The ladder costs $40 and fills up quickly, so move fast to reserve your spot.
